Sharona Hoffman, the Edgar A. Hahn Professor of Law and co-director of the Law-Medicine Center at Case Western Reserve University School of Law, is serving as a at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Department of Bioethics in Washington, D.C., during her spring semester sabbatical.
As a visiting scholar, Hoffman is researching and writing about the legal and ethical challenges of cognitive decline among health care providers and about privacy and data security. Hoffman, who is also a professor in the bioethics department at Case Western Reserve鈥檚 School of Medicine, is participating in all department activities, including teaching, commenting on colleagues鈥� works in progress, and attending numerous bioethics workshops and seminars.
The Department of Bioethics at the NIH is a center for research, training and service related to bioethical issues. The department conducts conceptual, empirical and policy-related research into bioethical issues; and offers comprehensive training to future bioethicists and educational programs for biomedical researchers and clinical providers.
