From mail clients obscuring email addresses to advanced spoofing techniques, it is often difficult to determine if an email is legitimate or not. The Information Security Office has created a flowchart to help determine whether or not a 鈥渏ob opportunity email鈥� is legitimate. We鈥檝e also included an explanation for why each question was asked so you can learn to distinguish scams from legitimate opportunities in the future.
Where to find a legitimate job
As a student, you have access to a wealth of legitimate job opportunities provided through Case Western鈥檚 student employment website. You can also apply for jobs directly through employers鈥� websites, as well as on job-matching sites such as LinkedIn and Indeed. However, when applying for jobs on job-matching sites, be vigilant, as anyone can pose as an employer.
TL;DR
If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. to verify if an email is a scam or not.
