On November 19th the US Surgeon General, Vivek H. Murthy, MD, released a new report on health issues related to tobacco use. It is the most comprehensive investigation of commercial tobacco-related health issues in a single Surgeon General's report to date. Commercial tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States. Although there has been an overall reduction in use, cigarette smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke is much higher in some areas.
