M.C. “Terry� Hokenstad, Jr. is a Distinguished University Professor Emeritus, the Ralph S. and Dorothy P. Schmitt Professor Emeritus and professor of global health emeritus. An internationally recognized leader in social work education and research, he has served as president of the Council on Social Work Education, the North American and Caribbean Region of the International Association of Schools of Social Work, and chaired NASW’s International Committee.

A global expert on aging, Hokenstad was a U.S. delegate to the 2002 U.N. World Assembly on Aging and helped draft the International Plan of Action on Aging. His cross-national research spans innovations in elder care and pension policies, and he has led educational delegations and lectures across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

Hokenstad has authored nine books and numerous scholarly publications, served as editor-in-chief of The International Social Work Journal, and held editorial roles across leading journals in the field. His honors include the NASW International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award, CSWE Significant Lifetime Achievement Award, IASSW Katherine Kendall Award, recognition as a CSWE Partner in Advancing Education for International Social Work, and a recipient of CWRU's prestigious Hovorka Prize.
