Who Should Apply?

Candidates should have a strong background in the social or behavioral sciences, public health or health services research, legal or health policy research, philosophy or a related humanities disciplines. A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.3 out of 4.0 is preferred.

How to Apply?

  • Online Application: Start the online application. Please indicate that you are applying to the School of Medicine> Doctoral> Bioethics Program.
  • $50 application fee
  • Transcripts: Include school-issued unofficial transcripts, scanned and uploaded for all colleges or universities attended. Electronic transcripts can also be emailed to [email protected].
  • Resume/CV: Upload your current resume/CV outlining all work experience and volunteer roles with timeframes. Make sure to highlight any completed research positions or opportunities experienced.
  • Letters of Recommendation: The online application will request contact information for three references who are willing to write letters of recommendation. 365bet体育在线世界杯 least one letter must be from an academic program that can evaluate your academic path, writing ability, and analytical skills.
  • Personal Statement: Upload a personal statement answering the following prompts:
    • Why do you want to earn a PhD in Bioethics?
    • What are your areas of interest in bioethics and medical humanities and why?
    • What faculty member(s) are you are interested in working or interacting with, and why?
  • Writing Sample: A paper, such as a class assignment, of no longer than 25 pages; or published article with the applicant listed as either single or first author. If the applicant chooses to submit a published article with multiple authors, they should submit a brief statement describing each author鈥檚 contribution.
  • Graduate Test Scores: Exam scores (such as GRE) are not required and are optional in the admissions process.

For international applicants: if you are not a citizen of an English speaking country or if your previous college or university was not taught in English, please submit an English proficiency exam (IELTS, TOFEL, or PTE).
